The Glen became host to a NASCAR event in 1957 won by Buck Baker, and there were races in 1964 and 1965. But it didn't get a permanent spot on the NASCAR schedule until 1986. The Glen, which is 280 miles west of New York City, is the fourth incarnation of a race course that dates to 1948. The historic layout almost reminds one of some glamorous Hollywood movie siren of the 1950s. It was involved in one of racing's most thrilling eras, survived bankruptcy, underwent countless face-lifts and emerged decades later once again as a regal, enduring star. The Glen's future was solidified when International Speedway Corporation bought it in 1997.
